S. Korean consumers drop Apple lawsuit

Apple has doged a minor legal bullet after 29 South Korean consumers decided not to go ahead with their class-action lawsuit against the electronics manufacter for allegedly violating their privacy with its location tracking feature.

The Yonhap News Agency reported Friday the group of iPhone users decided to drop the case against Apple and its local unit, citing difficulty in proving that their privacy was actually violated.

They had filed the suit in 2011, with each seeking 800,000 won (US$757) in damages after claiming the iPhone's location recognition feature tracked and stored personal data without their consent, it added.

The South Korean government had already censured Apple in August 2011 because its devices running iOS 4 or higher were tracking users' every move and location. It imposed a three million won (US$2,855) on Apple's South Korean unit because of this flawed feature.
