Portales, New Mexico (CNN) - The FDA shut down a New Mexico peanut plant after a salmonella outbreak that sickened 41 people.
Sunland Peanut Company pulled its products from shelves at Trader Joe's stores across the country.
The F-D-A found bacterial contamination at the company's plant in Portales, New Mexico, and suspended Sunland's license Monday.
The company's vice president says workers have torn down and rebuilt all the equipment, and is waiting for the F-D-A to approve a re-opening.
This is the first time the F-D-A has shut down a plant, using new power gained in a 2011 food safety law.
